Winning project of the Big See Award 2021
The project for the gym and sports center in Clusone has become a new focal point for local sports activities. Our goal was to create a facility that not only meets the community’s athletic needs but also serves as a gathering place and venue for events, integrating an organic space for outdoor activities. The new sports hub features a multifunctional outdoor area, where the design has shaped a space of great architectural expression. The sports facility is equipped with all the necessary spaces to host not only competitive sports activities but also public events.
Designed in compliance with CONI regulations, the gym includes a Silver1-certified court, suitable for various sports such as volleyball and handball, making the sports hall highly versatile and adaptable for different events. We chose to give the building a distinctive identity through clear and simple geometries, ensuring functionality and efficiency. However, it is in its elevation that the building truly expresses its unique character: a bold architectural statement that stands out iconographically in its surroundings. The dynamic façade, known as the “Yellow Cave,” becomes the project’s signature element, giving the entire complex a strong and recognizable visual identity. With this project, we aimed to create a place that is not only functional but also symbolic for Clusone, a reference point for sports and the community. The gym and sports center are not just spaces for physical activity; they are also places where the community can come together, share experiences, and celebrate sports in all its forms. The facility is also used by Atalanta Calcio for their summer training sessions.
