Winning project of the Big See Award 2021
The project for the Clusone gym and sports centre has set a new benchmark for local sporting activities. The aim was to create a facility that would not only meet the community’s sporting needs, but would also become a venue for socialising and entertainment, incorporating a seamlessly integrated space for outdoor events.
The new sports complex comprises a multi-purpose outdoor area, where the design has created a space of great architectural expression. The sports facility has been equipped with all the necessary spaces to host not only competitive sporting activities but also public events. Designed in accordance with CONI regulations, the sports hall includes a Silver1-certified court, making the venue versatile and suitable for a variety of sporting events.
The clear and simple geometries ensure functionality and efficiency, but it is in its elevation that the building expresses its distinctive character: a powerful, expressive gesture that stands out iconographically against the surrounding space. The dynamic façade, known as the ‘yellow cave’, has become the defining feature of the project, giving the entire complex a unique visual identity.
This project has now become a symbol for Clusone, a landmark for sport and the community. The sports hall and sports centre have become meeting places where people can come together, share experiences and celebrate sport in all its forms. The building is also used by Atalanta Calcio for their summer training sessions.
