The Santa Maria della Pietà project is an ambitious and significant initiative for the ASL pavilions in the Lazio Region, aimed at transforming the former mental hospital in the heart of Rome into a new health and wellbeing park.
At the heart of the project is the internal refurbishment and restoration of the façades of Pavilion V, once known as ‘the pavilion of the tranquil’, which is now set to be reborn as a modern health centre within a multi-purpose facility dedicated to social care and health services.
The project aims to strengthen the complex’s role through an approach that combines full accessibility, high-quality interior spaces and respect for the original architectural layout. With spaces for individual consultations, multi-purpose rooms, workshops and a large infirmary, Pavilion V will be brought back to life, preserving its historical heritage whilst embracing the future.
The balance between innovation and the preservation of historical heritage has guided every design decision, enabling the pavilions to be repurposed to accommodate new activities.
Restoring this site means preserving its historical value whilst, at the same time, returning to the city a heritage asset capable of meeting contemporary needs.
As part of this regeneration process, spaces have been created that are functionally efficient and designed to promote the wellbeing and health of their users. This project marks a true rebirth for the former Santa Maria della Pietà Psychiatric Hospital, whose spaces will be transformed into a vibrant community hub, where past and future converge to create a new landmark in the city of Rome.
