The redevelopment of the former San Donato Market in Bologna represents an ambitious and significant project for the city. We faced the challenge of demolishing the existing structure to make way for a new cultural center, conceived as a unified, functional and sustainable architectural organism. Our vision was strongly influenced by the idea that the construction of this center could become a catalyst for urban transformation, actively involving the community and representing an inclusive and educational social event.
The building is designed on three levels, each with specific functions that meet the diverse needs of the community already inhabiting the former market space. In the basement, we created a restaurant/bar area and several multipurpose rooms, perfect for events and meetings. On the ground floor, a versatile hall and dedicated music spaces provide a dynamic venue for performances and musical activities. On the second floor, art education spaces are designed for workshops and classes, providing a stimulating environment for learning and creativity.
Every detail has been taken care of to ensure that the new cultural center not only meets functional needs, but is also an example of sustainable architecture.
For us, this project is more than just a redevelopment: it is an opportunity to create a cultural landmark that can enrich the San Donato neighborhood and the entire city of Bologna by providing versatile and innovative spaces for culture, art and community.
