The intervention on the Ex Caserma Capitano De Cristoforis in Como stems from the desire to give back a piece of the city to its citizens, through a conservative restoration and functional rationalisation. A project shared with the local administration, in which conservation and transformation find a concrete, functional and lasting balance. The fulcrum of the project is the redevelopment of the central square: from a residual area to a living public space, a connection point between the buildings of the complex and the urban fabric. A multifunctional urban park, with pedestrian paths, event spaces and a green system that enhances the existing rows of lime trees, improves environmental quality and reinforces the identity of the place. The project was realised with a strong focus on sustainability, integrating advanced technologies and eco-friendly materials. Energy distribution is optimised with a strategically placed ENEL cabin, reducing energy losses. The photovoltaic system is made up of roof-coloured panels (405 Wp) to respect historical aesthetics and monocrystalline panels (670 Wp) for greater efficiency. The energy produced reduces costs and increases the self-sufficiency of the complex. The project, which combines sustainable technologies and respect for the historical heritage, contributes to an ecological and functional future, responding to tomorrow's environmental challenges. The complex becomes home to several administrations, opening up new forms of relations between institutions and citizens. The Ex Caserma De Cristoforis once again becomes a place of encounter and identity for the city of Como, where historical memory and innovation coexist.
