Turin’s new Metro Line 2 is one of our most ambitious projects, helping to shape a more sustainable and connected Turin, transforming architecture into a practical tool for urban regeneration. With stations inspired by Turin’s porticoes, sustainable materials and a focus on the urban context, the proposal developed in collaboration with UNS, Mijksenaar, Frigorosso, 3BA and WSP stems from a reflection on Turin’s urban identity, characterised by a balance between formal rigour and decorative richness, between tradition and modernity.
The project focuses on three stations: Mole-Giardini, San Giovanni Bosco and Carlo Alberto, linked by an architectural system based on a contemporary reinterpretation of Turin’s porticoes: here, the shelters become defining elements, a sequence of structures evolving from the archetype of the arch to that of the portal, evoking the typical features of Turin’s façades. Each station engages with its surroundings: from a light, transparent landmark next to the Mole, to an open pavilion at San Giovanni Bosco station, to an infrastructure that blends into the historic fabric and houses cultural spaces at Carlo Alberto station.
The stations on Line 2 are designed as flexible, modular structures, capable of adapting to different contexts, whilst the branding and wayfinding system creates an intuitive visual identity that is integrated with the architecture, facilitating orientation and recognition of the line. Materials play an equally central role, combining tradition and innovation to create a clear and recognisable image.
After almost twenty years of working on a national and international scale, returning to Turin with this project represents an opportunity for us to contribute to the city’s transformation through distinctive architecture, conceived as a public space capable of making a lasting impact on the urban landscape. A project destined to become part of the city’s collective memory, marking a new chapter for Settanta7, right there in Turin, where it all began.
