The design for the new “Luigi Einaudi” Vocational College in Lodi was conceived with the aim of creating a building deeply connected to the surrounding urban and landscape fabric, highlighting the landscape of the Lodi area with its natural and man-made patterns, characterised by the presence of earth and water. The vision underpinning the project was to conceive of the school as a forest, a fertile ecosystem for learning, nestled between the natural and urban landscapes. This new educational facility has been designed to offer cutting-edge teaching, closely linked to the relationship with greenery and outdoor spaces.
From a formal perspective, the building’s footprint appears as a crystallisation of the organic forms surrounding the site. The lowland forest was the main source of inspiration for the architectural layout and for the atmosphere the designers sought to recreate within the learning spaces. The result is a bright and open building, characterised by bold lines and variations in height, creating spaces that are both welcoming and stimulating.
The idea of a ‘forest school’ is not merely a metaphor, but a tangible integration of nature and architecture. Students can thus benefit from a learning environment that reflects the principles of sustainability and connection with nature, with extensive green spaces that promote wellbeing. The outdoor spaces form an integral part of the educational programme and offer opportunities for outdoor activities.
This project is therefore an invitation to explore new ways of learning, where architecture becomes a means of inspiring and engaging, harmoniously integrating the built environment with the natural and urban landscape of the Lodi area.
