Finalist in The Plan Award 2023, category "Education-Completed"
The new school complex in Torri, in the municipality of Arcugnano, is a symbol of identity for the local community and instils in young pupils the fundamental values of culture, creativity and respect for the environment.
The new school complex, which houses both primary and lower secondary schools, has been designed as a place of growth and learning that is open to the wider community, becoming a true hub of technology and culture. During its construction, internationally renowned artists such as Bart Smeets, Jason Naylor and Dasic Fernandez were involved, creating monumental murals that have transformed the building into an open-air work of art.
Wood was chosen for the load-bearing structure due to its excellent energy efficiency and sustainability qualities. The structure consists of X-Lam panels and laminated timber beams, materials that ensure strength and a low environmental impact. In elevation, the volumetric composition of the elements is complemented by cladding in TECU® Gold, a copper-aluminium alloy with a golden-brown hue. The distinctive ‘tailor-made’ curvature of the panels reflects natural light across their faceted surface, creating an image that is always unique and captivating.
