Scalo Ravone

The project envisages the recovery and eco-sustainable reutilisation of some of the disused areas and structures of the former Scalo Ravone, giving life to a new district of mutualism, social innovation and collaborative economy. This project is part of a broader design, that of the “City of Knowledge”, destined to redesign the face of the district. The recovery of the former Scalo Ravone is located in the Saffi area of the Porto-Saragozza neighbourhood, an urban fabric rich in history and social dynamics, which hosts important realities, both for the city and for the entire metropolitan context. The neighbourhood, the most populous in Bologna, is characterised by an extraordinary cultural, social and spatial variety, with a strong presence of services both at urban and metropolitan level, but also of disused and underused areas. The Ex Scalo Ferroviario Ravone, located west of the Bologna Centrale railway station, enjoys a strategic position that facilitates connections with the heart of the city and its main development areas. The project is part of the “City of Knowledge”, a large regeneration project that aims to revitalise the north-west quadrant of Bologna. With funding from Integrated Urban Plans (PUIs) and support from local and European resources, the project aims to redesign the city by promoting science, knowledge and mutualism as strategic levers to create a more inclusive future. A future that focuses on innovation, urban and environmental regeneration, but also on social inclusion as the cardinal principle of any transformation. The City of Knowledge will develop through policies aimed at stimulating growth and fostering collaboration in the metropolitan research ecosystem. Added to this is the important role of citizen participation, which will be fundamental to the realisation of this project. The SIMBOLOPARK, the beating heart of the Via della Conoscenza, will become a venue of great cultural relevance, with the capacity to offer new development opportunities, thanks to the regeneration of a semi-disused area.
