Rimini’s new Cittadella della Sicurezza will be set within a large urban park open to the public. The conversion of the former Giulio Cesare barracks is one of the most significant urban regeneration projects undertaken in Rimini in recent years. The project is the result of a collaboration between the State Property Agency and Rimini City Council and forms part of the wider City Plan for Public Properties.
Following the winning of the design competition, the redevelopment of the former Giulio Cesare barracks has officially entered the design phase. The project is led by Settanta7, the lead partner in a consortium comprising Paisà srl, Mic-Hub srl, engineer Marco Monaco and Aspasia Archeo Service srl.
The Citadel will be built on a site of approximately 70,000 square metres along Via Flaminia and will house the offices of the Prefecture, the Police Headquarters, the State Police, the Guardia di Finanza and ROAN, and the Carabinieri, bringing together in a single hub functions that are currently spread across various locations in the city. The project also includes the construction of 46 new, modern and functional homes.
The heart of the Citadel is the large public park, conceived as a defining and generative element, whilst the removal of the perimeter wall of the former barracks becomes a symbol of a city that is opening up and re-establishing broken connections. From here, paths, squares and themed gardens dedicated to socialising, physical activity, wellbeing and gathering unfold. Two main axes connect the park to the sea and the key urban hubs, whilst a central civic square – a hybrid of green spaces and paved surfaces – hosts events, ceremonies and moments of everyday life.
We are proud to be part of this urban regeneration project, which prioritises sustainability, mobility and the quality of public space, transforming a strategic area into a new urban ecosystem with the potential to act as a catalyst for further transformations of the surrounding area.
