The Mancinelli residences were conceived as an ambitious design challenge, both in terms of the scale of the project and its technical complexity. The project involves the construction of a new student accommodation block in the heart of Milan, designed to house hundreds of students from the Politecnico di Milano and to contribute to the transformation of a part of the city currently undergoing a major regeneration process.
The development comprises two twin towers, each with nine storeys above ground, both constructed with an all-timber structure. This choice lies at the heart of the project: to apply the experience gained in timber design to a complex building scale, demonstrating how this material can effectively meet the demands of a dense and complex urban context.
From an architectural perspective, the project adopts a minimalist and recognisable design language. The two towers make a distinct mark on the urban landscape, with a strong yet understated identity, capable of engaging with an area that still bears traces of its former university use and is now entering a new phase of development.
The Mancinelli Residences are designed to offer a comprehensive living experience, thanks to study rooms equipped with the latest technology, communal spaces and areas dedicated to socialising and leisure, fostering the creation of a dynamic and inclusive community.
The creation of a new green space open to both students and the wider city introduces a dimension of connection and sharing, contributing to the regeneration of the neighbourhood.
Mancinelli thus combines three different levels of intervention: that of construction innovation, through research into timber; that of communal space, by creating a new meeting place; and that of urban development, by contributing to the transformation of an entire section of the city.
